COLONEL SAMUEL W. MORGAN III
COMMANDER, BLUE GRASS ARMY DEPOT

Col. Samuel W. Morgan III assumed command of Blue Grass Army Depot on June 27, 2024. Blue Grass Army Depot provides America's Joint Warfighters with reliable, timely and cost-effective munitions and chemical defense equipment in support of full-spectrum military operations.

In 2000, Morgan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Transportation Corps from the Army ROTC program at Widener University, Chester, Pennsylvania.

He has earned a Master of Art in National Security and Strategic Studies and Master of Military Arts and Science from the Army’s Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Master of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix, Arizona, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Widener University.

His assignments include Medium Truck Platoon Leader, Heavy Equipment Transport Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer, Transportation Motor Company, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, Jan. 2001-May 2003; J4 Staff officer, JTF-Bravo, Honduras, Marine Terminal Officer and Plans Officer, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea, April 2004-March 2006; Assistant Division Transportation Officer, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, April 2006-Sept. 2007; Commander, Distribution Company, 82nd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Sept. 2007-June 2009; Assistant S4, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, June 2009-May 2010; Group S4, 902nd Military Intelligence Group Counterintelligence, Fort Meade, Maryland, June 2010-June 2013; Joint Logistics Operations Officer, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Airforce Base, Florida, June 2013-July 2015; Commander, Special Operations Logistics Support Element Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, July 2015-June 2018; Garrison Commander, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, June 2018-July 2021; and G5 Director of Strategy and Plans, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Scott Airforce Base, Illinois, July 2021-June 2024. Morgan’s deployments include tours to Honduras, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

His military education includes Transportation Officer’s Basic Course, Logistics Captains Career Course, Pre- Command Course, Joint Planners Course, Support Operations Course, Northern Warfare Basic Mountaineering Course, Jumpmaster Advanced Airborne School, SERE Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and Naval War College.

Col. Morgan’s awards and achievements include Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Senior Parachutist Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, and German Airborne Wings.



CHRIS LEE
DEPUTY TO COMMANDER

Mr. Chris Lee currently serves as the Deputy to the Commander of the Blue Grass Army Depot. In this role, Lee ensures munitions and chemical defense equipment are readily available to support worldwide full-spectrum military operations. In addition, he is responsible for oversight of operations at the Anniston Munitions Center in Alabama, and the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania.

Originally from Silverdale, Washington, Mr. Lee was commissioned into the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps in 1997 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Brigham Young University.

Following nine years of commissioned service, Mr. Lee became a U.S. Navy civilian supervisory engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Washington, in 2006. From the shipyard, he had two overseas tours to Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy where he was the Installation Business Manager (N5/N8) responsible for Strategic Planning, Future Plans, and Financial Management for the base. From 2019 until 2022, Mr. Lee also served as the Deputy Public Works Officer in Sigonella.

Besides his bachelor’s degree from BYU, Mr. Lee holds a Master of Science in leadership and management from Western Governors University, Millcreek, Utah, and an Associate of Science in Italian from the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California.

Mr. Lee’s military awards include the Navy Commendation Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. His civilian awards include the Army Civilian Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal.

Blue Grass Army Depot provides America's Joint Warfighters with quality, timely, and reliable munitions, chemical defense equipment, non-lethal combat equipment, and force provider sets, in support of the full spectrum of Military Operations. Additionally, safeguard the storage and destruction of contaminated secondary waste.
